It is the Feast of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross and the principal feast of the Holy Cross. It is a custom to have any UNBLESSED crosses, blessed on this occasion. Any crosses received by next Sunday at 9:30am will be placed upon the Holy Altar during Divine Liturgy and blessed at the conclusion of Divine Liturgy. Also, please feel free to drop of a cross during the week at the St. John Office.

2 Today s Gospel Mark 7:31-37 Then he returned from the region of Tyre, and went through Sidon to the Sea of Galilee, through the region of the Decapolis. And they brought to him a man who was deaf and had an impediment in his speech; and they besought him to lay his hand upon him. And taking him aside from the multitude privately, he put his fingers into his ears, and he spat and touched his tongue; and looking up to heaven, he sighed, and said to him, Ephphatha, that is, Be opened. And his ears were opened, his tongue was released, and he spoke plainly. And he charged them to tell no one; but the more he charged them, the more zealously they proclaimed it. And they were astonished beyond measure, saying, He has done all things well; he even make the deaf hear and the dumb speak. Plate Collection for Victims of Hurricane Harvey and the flood disaster in Houston, TX Archbishop Khajag Barsamian, Primate has requested a special plate collection for the victims of the recent floods in Texas and St. Kevork Armenian Church community. The plate collection will take place during Amen yev unt hokvooyt koom (page 39). The special plate collections will take place during badarak for each of the Sundays of September starting September 3, and continuing on September 10, 17, and 24 to help provide relief to the affected people of the St. Kevork Church. If you wish to send a check, please make it payable to St. John Armenian Church or to the Diocese of the Armenian Church of America (630 Second Avenue, New York, NY 10016), with the memo: St. Kevork Flood Relief. Prayers for our fellow brothers and sisters At the urging of Archbishop Khajag Barsamian, our Diocesan Primate, we pray for the victims of Hurricane Harvey and pray for those who are now experiencing Hurricane Irma. We ask The Lord to protect all of those in harms way. 11 General Information Parish Office Hours: Monday-Friday, 9:00 am 5:00 pm After hours in an emergency, please contact: Pastor s Cell: FrAren@sjachurch.org Administrator s Cell: Visits to the Hospitalized and Homebound Please phone the Church Office when you or someone you love is admitted to the hospital and would like a visit from the Pastor. If you have an upcoming surgery, please consider requesting your name to be included in the Prayers for the Sick and Hospitalized list. Those who are homebound and would like to receive Holy Communion at home should phone the Church Office. Home Blessing If you would like the Pastor to visit your home and offer a home blessing, please contact the Church Office. Baptism Parents may prepare for the baptism of their child before he or she is born. For more information, phone the Church Secretary. We encourage parents to baptize their children between 40 days and 3 months. Marriage Phone the Church Secretary at least nine months in advance of your proposed wedding date. Parish Membership If you are interested in becoming a member of the St. John parish, please speak to a Parish Council member on Sunday, or phone the Church Office. Sunday Bulletin Announcements for the Sunday Bulletin are due in the Church Office by 5:00 pm on Wednesday preceding the date of service. Requiem Requests may be submitted to the Church Office by mail, phone, fax , or to Tamara@sjachurch.org no later than 5:00 pm Wednesday preceding the Sunday. Request forms are available in the Church Lobby. Requiem may be offered every Sunday of the year except for the five Tabernacle Feast Days.
